Recently unearthed - "More Friendlier" was Combine's first demo recording, which quickly circulated through the national underground eventually catching the attention of Texas indie Staplegun Records, who signed the band sight unseen on the power of this recording alone.

It was recorded a mere 6 months or so from the band's inception and captures the raw power and precision of a band that rehearsed seven days a week for almost that entire 6 months.

While half of the songs went on to be featured on their first full-length album, the real gems on this are songs 3-5 which were lost to history until now. Those tracks in particular showcased a band still experimenting with direction and had more of a Project Mersh era Minutemen vibe to them.

From a performance level standpoint - it is clearly the band's best recording, and most closely captures the air-tight ferocity that made them instant darlings of the underground press, and was a clear harbinger of the success that soon followed.

And to Vicki, wherever you ended up in life, we sincerely hope the people there are more friendlier.
